David R. Bunton

	David R. Bunton, 59, of Murphysboro, died at 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2000 at the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County in Murphysboro after a brief bout with cancer.
	Mr. Bunton was born February 16, 1941 in DuQuoin, the son of Carson and Ruth (Hunter) Bunton.  He was  raised in a close family of five brothers.  ON March 11, 1958 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until his release on February 15, 1962.  He began a career in law enforcement as  a police officer at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 1965.  He continued work at SIU as an investigator, corporal and sergeant until his retirement in 1993.  He worked for a short time in the civil process department of the Jackson County Sheriffs Department.
	He was a member of the American Legion of Murphysboro and the Eagles Club of Carbondale.
	He was loved and respected by his family, co-workers and friends.
	He married Nancy J. Davie of Carbondale and had one son, Carson K. Bunton.  Both survive in Carbondale.  Other survivors include four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Billy Bunton, Jimmy Bunton, Danny and Ruthie Bunton, all of DuQuoin, Jerry and Phyllis Bunton of Dowell and Deborah Bunton of DuQuoin and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Michael Bunton of DuQuoin.
	Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 24 at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale with Rev. Bill Gilmore officiating.  Interment was at Murdale Gardens of Memory, Murphysboro.  Friends were able to call after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
	Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois, the Rehab and Care Center of Jackson County or the American Cancer Society.
